Dear friends,
I would like to invite you to the opening ceremony to our latest exhibit for The Year of the Veteran - Comox Valley: One War, Two Victories. We are looking forward to meeting our special guests veterans from the mainland who will be in attendance, many of which have stories similar to what this fantastic exhibit is focused on. With the help of some of our local officials and a few surprises we hope this event will be quite memorable for all the veterans who will be in attendance.
I hope you can make it on this particular Monday (June 16th) as we hope to give these veterans a very warm Comox Valley/Vancouver Island welcome. Plus it will give you a chance to visit The Alberni Project - HMCS Alberni Memorial and Exhibit if you haven't been here in a while. A lot has changed and a lot has been added.
This special exhibition explores the experiences of Chinese-Canadians who served in the Canadian military and volunteer services and in Allied war efforts during the Second World War. Though denied rights and subjected to widespread discrimination before the war, many Chinese-Canadians volunteered for military service and related duties, helping to secure victory abroad and greater equality at home. The exhibition presents fascinating wartime stories of unforgettable men and women. It examines their remarkable contributions to Canada and to the Chinese-Canadian community in war and peace.
Previous displays of this exhibit have been at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria and prior to coming to Comox it will be at the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum.
We are proud to be chosen to host this exhibit here in the Comox Valley and central Vancouver Island. One War, Two Victories will be a wonderful part of The Year of the Veteran - Comox Valley. I hope you can come and experience this at TAP, if not on this special opening day, then while it is here.
Please feel free to print this poster and share it. If you would like our main poster to print out instead (without the invitation and with the list of local sponsors and organizations who have contributed to hosting this exhibit) please let me know and I can get you a copy of the main public poster.
