FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A Tribute to the Great War in Songs and Stories
Presented in partnership with the CEF100 Commemoration Society, the Maritime
Museum of BC presents a musical revue featuring music and stories from the
First World War on November 8. In A Tribute to the Great War in Songs and
Stories, experience the atmosphere of an old time music hall. Hear old
familiar songs and listen to stories of courage, sacrifice, and heroism by
the soldiers who went off to fight and those who stayed behind.
"Expect to be swept up in the sentiment that was felt during the First World
War," says Kate Humble, interpretive coordinator at the Maritime Museum of
BC. "The ups and downs of the conflict are reflected in the timbre of the
music. Best of all, the audience is encouraged to sing along."
The music of the war was integral in upholding morale, re-enforcing national
identity, and expressing loss and longing. Many of the hit songs of the
period are with us today and are just as hummable now as 100 years ago.
Listen to first-hand accounts from Canadians who served overseas during the
Great War and hear about the war effort on the home front between the moving
melodies.
This up-tempo production features live music and narration, and the
opportunity to sing along to such unforgettable songs as "It's a Long, Long
Way to Tipperary," "You Made Me Love You," " Good-byeeee," "Keep the Home
Fires Burning," "How 'Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm" and many more.
The concert is on November 8 at 7:30pm at St. Luke's Church Hall. Tickets
are $12 and can be purchased online at mmbc.bc.ca, by contacting
khumble at mmbc.bc.ca, or by phone at 250-385-4222 ext. 112.
