HERITAGE FAIR & PUBLIC EVENTS COORDINATOR, 2015
The North Vancouver Museum & Archives seeks an experienced and energetic individual to work with the Education staff to coordinate the event, "Sea to Sky Regional Heritage Fair Celebration". Responsibilities include promotion and registration of school groups, a community sponsorship program and coordinating educational activities for students and the community. The Fair program will highlight history projects produced by students from North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Howe Sound districts. In addition, community groups and history specialists will conduct workshops and festive events for the students and the general public.
Promotions work and coordination of profile-raising public events will also be undertaken. These include but are not limited to Canada Day and Waterfront Productions (featuring the Shipyard and Mountaineering Pals' theatrical interpretation programs). See program descriptions at nvma.ca
Duties include assisting with:
* Promoting the Heritage Fair program to teachers, principals and the community;
* Creating and supervising a conference of educational workshops for students;
* Promoting the Sea to Sky Regional Heritage Fair public event;
* Liaising with educators, entertainers, sponsors, community partners and the media;
* Coordinating a Regional Heritage Fair sponsorship program;
* Organizing volunteer support for additional community events;
* Writing & distributing press releases, flyers, advertisements and social media.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
* Experience in developing community involvement with the delivery of public events;
* Demonstrated ability to write accurately and creatively;
* Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers;
* An interest in history and event planning;
* Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
* Demonstrated ability with Facebook and Twitter;
* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
* Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service;
A Criminal Record Check and clean B.C. Driver's License are requirements.
Work Period: Position starts November 24, 2014 and ends approximately July 25, 2015. (Funding is available for 590 hours)
Work Week: The position will work a minimum of 14 hours per week and at times will work up to 21 hours. While the incumbent must generally work on weekdays, some evening and weekend work is essential. Work week is flexible.
Salary: $22.86 per hour (PG 15-1) (2013 rates) plus 12% in lieu of benefits, paid statutory holidays and vacation pay
