[BCMA] An invitation to the BC Historical Federation Conference

The Quesnel Museum is hosting the BC Historical Federation Conference from May 21 - 23rd.  The theme "Journey to the Cariboo" is an appropriate way to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the Cariboo Wagon Road.  (The final leg of the road from  Quesnel  to  Barkerville was completed in 1865).

Highlights include:

Welcoming Reception -  An opportunity to meet your fellow conference attendees, explore the Quesnel Museum and  enjoy locally sourced appetizers paired with beer from Barkerville Brewery.
A full day bus trip to Barkerville -   with stops at the Cottonwood Road House and the 1930s gold mining town of Wells. Our guide will keep you entertained with tales of  the road houses and abandoned claims (and even some that are being revived through the use of modern technology) en route.
Saturday will be eventful with the AGM, Lunch-Time Speaker  Richard Wright, providing a sneak peak at his latest documentary project - the back stories of some of the individuals who came to Barkerville, and an afternoon with short presentations, guided tours and an  Author's  Fair.
Short Programs (Saturday)

*         Road to the Goldfields - Ronald Greene will examine the journey to the Cariboo in 1865, as documented in the photographs of Charles Gentile who accompanied Frederick Seymour, the Governor of British Columbia, on a trip to the Cariboo.

*          Cariboo Portraits - Lorna Townsend & Susan Susan Smith-Josephy will discuss the photographs of C.D. Hoy and C.S. Wing and reveal the stories of a few of their subjects.

*         Pioneers of the Cariboo-Storytellers Tom Moffat, Lily Hoy-Price , Doreen Patrick, all of whom  have deep roots in the Cariboo ,share their memories of the region's colourful and exciting past.

*         Cariboo Caravan-Elizabeth Hunter will explore digitization projects by featuring the Cariboo Caravan, a 1930 promotional campaign to construct a highway to Alaska .

*         Pioneer Cemetery Guided Tour-Brandee Schutz will introduce you to the final resting place of some of the Cariboo's finest and most intriguing residents.
All capped off with the Awards Banquet  and an after dinner  theater production of "The Bride of Barkerville" by Danette Boucher.
