Hi Tammy,
Chiming in on your topic to say that this kind of thing is exactly what we
will be looking at with our new Digital Museum Studies training program with
The Centre for Digital Media <http://thecdm.ca/> in Vancouver. Of course,
the development of this program is just underway now so won't be ready in
time for your immediate needs, but in the future this program will be
available to train people in the museum and gallery sector on interactives
like the one you speak about.
As well, students will be available to work on projects like yours. To date
they've already done interactives with UBC's MOA and the Maritime Museum.
Check out this article on Bringing Interactivity for Museums
<http://thecdm.ca/news/bringing-interactivity-museums-interview-mdm-faculty-
larry-bafia-part-2> for more info. It might also provide some inspiration
for your project. If you think your project would be a good one for current
Centre students, let me know and I can put you in touch with the school's
Director.
Cheers,
Theresa

Tammy,
We've worked with Mark Wunsch of Greencoast Media on a couple touch-screen
units http://greencoastmedia.ca/ here at the Museum. Both applications have
been successful - few technological problems and easy to work with in terms
of content production etc. He is also working in the community towards a
couple of outdoor applications - one for our fishing pier and the other for
Elk Falls Provincial Park.

Hi, Everyone,
I have somehow managed to get co-opted onto a committee working to establish
a local Sports Wall of Fame. They have plans for an interactive digital
format presented on a touch-screen monitor, with sections for the history of
various sports and sports facilities and biographies of the inductees. The
idea is that viewers can choose which sports or which people they want to
learn about by touching menu options. The committee talks about a website,
but I think that might be non-techie speak and that it wouldn't necessarily
need Internet access as long as all the content is accessible in one unit.
The content will include text, still photos, and video I'm assuming there
will be audio associated with some of them), and it will be displayed
indoors at the local Rec Centre.
Does anyone have any experience with display units like this? Any
lessons-learned advice, awesome suppliers, etc to suggest?
Thanks!
Tammy
