Background information:

Shadow play performances are presented by highly-skilled puppeteers, with
lighting, special effects, voice acting and music. Beijing Shadow Play
Troupe is renowned for its unique technique.

For certain performances, the audiences move closer to the stage, and the
puppeteers every move is seen by the audience clearly, which requires the
actor's performance to have exquisite technique and exact precision.

In order to achieve this goal, Beijing Shadow Play presents certain dramas
that are highlighted with very fine details, such as puppets looking in the
mirror, blinking and laughing. Using special effects, the puppets may cry
and the audience will see tears of puppets falling drop by drop down their
cheeks. The traditional techniques of expression are still used today.
