[BCMA] UBC Online Workshop: Public Engagement in Art Museums, starts Oct 21

The international University of British Columbia (UBC) Centre for Cultural Planning and Development is offering a new online professional development workshop, Public Engagement in Art Museums, starting October 21. This workshop can be taken individually for professional development or applied to the UBC Certificate in Cultural Planning - an international professional learning program delivered 100% online.

Examine how curators and content creators are connecting with today's visitors using socially engaged art practices and innovative programming. Amid shifts in education, marketing and visitor services, understand how museums are adopting new practices and programs to engage audiences as they reconsider their roles in the community and the roles of their visitors. Discuss models of public engagement across a wide variety of museums, processes and best practices for organizing public engagement programming, and the future of public engagement programs at museums and other cultural institutions.

INSTRUCTOR: Allison Agsten is Director of the Old Bank District Museum, a new cultural institution slated for downtown Los Angeles that will present the contemporary work of LA-based artists. Formerly, Allison was Curator of Public Engagement and Director of Visitor Services at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. In this role, she collaborated with artists to develop a new paradigm for the museum experience.
