Royal BC Museum heads outside for August programming

VICTORIA, BC – Summertime is a great time to get outside, and the Royal BC Museum is pleased to be offering opportunities to do so with its summer programming.

Gold Fever Trail Walking Tours with John Adams and Discover the Past allows participants to walk in the footsteps of gold rush personalities and see some of Victoria’s legendary and lesser-known sites that served the miners of ’58. Participants will take on a real character from British Columbia’s gold rushes and make choices along the way that will determine their fate.

Tours depart from the Royal BC Museum on Wednesdays and Saturdays until September 5, excluding the week of August 10.

The fifth nature walk of our Field Trippers – 125 Years and Counting series takes place at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park at 1 pm on Sunday, August 23. This Dragonfly Trip will be guided by Royal BC Museum Entomology Collections Manager Claudia Copley, Bird and Mammal Preparator Darren Copley and CRD Park interpreter Katie Turner.

Call 250-478-3344 by August 21 to register, which is required.

Starting August 5, join us for a half-hour guided tour of the award-winning Our Living Languages: First Peoples’ Voices of British Columbia exhibition, and gain insight into First Nations languages in BC and the strategies of keeping them alive. Tours begin in the main lobby and are included with same-day admission or membership.

Tours are offered Wednesday to Sunday at 1:30 pm until September 6.

The first in a series of three family friendly sessions, From the Beach to the Abyss will connect an audience via live streaming to experts from one of Canada’s most exciting research projects.

Ocean Networks Canada, an initiative of the University of Victoria, operates the world’s most advanced underwater cabled observatories off the BC coast and in the Arctic. Facilitated by Dr. Richard Dewey, Associate Director of Science Services with Ocean Networks Canada, join us to learn more about these underwater observatories and some of the discoveries they’ve made possible.

From the Beach to the Abyss takes place in Clifford Carl Hall at the Royal BC Museum on August 29 from 1-3 pm.
