Curatorial Technician
Contract

The Richmond Museum seeks a professional, positive and organized individual contractor to work as a part of our curatorial team.

PROJECT:
The Contractor will digitize the Museum's migration collection, which consists of 2100 artefacts representing stories of migration to Richmond.  These artefacts also represent the larger story of migration to British Columbia, as Richmond is an historic and modern destination for immigrants coming to Canada by land, sea and air. The images will be made accessible to the public through the Richmond Museum's Collections Web portal which will be available through the City of Richmond website and the Richmond Museum Society's website which is currently under development.

This project is funded through the Irking K. Barber Learning Centre British Columbia History Digitization Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
*          Photograph and or/scan 2100 artefacts and upload them to the Museum's database, Argus.net.
*          Ensure photography, quality and  best practices are met.
*          Ensure safe care and handling and movement of artefacts.
*          Display and support artefacts in connection with digitization.
*          Work with and train interns and volunteers as required.
*          Write a mid-point and final report.

QUALIFICATIONS:
*          Experience with digitization projects,
*          Skilled in the operation of digital cameras and scanners,
*          Experience with indoor studio photography, lighting and image rendering,
*          Trained and experienced in artefact care and handling,
*          Proficient in database maintenance and management,
*          Excellent communications skills including clear and concise report writing,
*          Experience teaching interns and supervising volunteers,
*          Minimum of 2-5 years' experience in Collections Management.

HOURS OF WORK:      August 4th - November 13th| Schedules will be set at the beginning of the project by the Contractor and in coordination with Museum Staff.

CONTRACT FEE: $30 an hour up to 525 hours
