Still Life

Still:  unmoving, remaining in place or at rest; motionless; stationary:    

 

Also; happening or existing before now and continuing into the present

 



Charmian thinks of herself as a functional potter, mostly working on the
wheel making utilitarian objects. Sculptural work is relatively new to her
and she has tried, in this body of work, to make the work immediate, finger
marks, tool marks visible, not too much fussing over details and also done
mostly from her imagination, so these are her own versions of these
creatures. 

 

She loves mixing and matching found objects with things of her own making.
This foray into non-functional, small scale sculptural work is the result of
her love of animals....and her habit of collecting and saving things that
would otherwise often be thrown away. Many wild animals have now become
urban and live in the cities amongst our homes and industries.  This work is
a playful attempt to create environments and stories for (her own
representations of) these creatures with found pieces, both natural and
man-made, that she and her partner have collected over the years or found
for the purpose.
