Term: Regular Full-time Salary: Pay Grade 26 ($28.34 - $33.52)

The Museum of Vancouver is seeking a Community Engagement Manager with a talent for collaboration, a proven ability to engage audiences in learning and to spark social connection, and a passion for Vancouver. The Community Engagement Manager is a critical member of the engagement team; this position implements day-to-day programming and collaborates in short- and long-term project and strategic planning.

The Museum of Vancouver connects Vancouverites to each other, to their city, and to the world. Programs, exhibitions, and collections bring people together to explore historic and contemporary issues and to envision the future of the Vancouver region. The museum, an enthusiastic advocate for civic life, is an independent non-profit arts and humanities organization dedicated to strengthening the bonds of community. The museum focus encompasses history, design, visual arts, architecture, urban planning, music, new media, fashion, photography, popular culture.
Nature of the Position
The Community Engagement Manager is a creative thinker able to quickly understand and connect with community on a wide range of political, cultural, and social issues. S/he undertakes the development, planning and delivery of entertaining, enlightening programs, activities, and special events. S/he connects the museum and its audiences with urban thinkers, designers, performers, makers, politicians, entrepreneurs. The Community Engagement Manager exercises considerable independent action, judgment, and initiative. S/he is a confident, engaging public speaker.
The Manager will have 5+ years of progressive organizational and administrative experience in a museums, academic institutions, or private firms. S/he will be responsible for developing/enhancing, coordinating and aligning a broad range of public programming, which serves diverse local, national, and international audiences including adults, families, and children. The Community Engagement Manager will assist the Director of Curatorial and Engagement in partnership building and collaboration with organizations and individuals in the region.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development, planning, implementation, and management of activities, events, programs.
* Manage staff, including auxiliaries, volunteers, interns, and program partners.
* Shape offerings to achieve institutional goals, including member engagement and increased and diversified audiences
* Manage budget to meet departmental and institutional goals; maintain accountability for program costs and revenues; working with Program Coordinator.
* Contribute to realigning of institutional direction, including approach and goals.
* Collaborate in a team environment in the conception, planning, and implementation of engagement projects, including exhibitions, collections, learning programs, in a variety of media.
* Deliver programs and assist in staffing or implementing as needed, including event management.
* Assist with strategic marketing, external outreach, fundraising, product development and day-to-day administrative duties.
* Contribute to preparation of grant applications.
* Innovate in development of digital interactions
* Work closely with marketing and promotions staff to develop comprehensive promotional strategies and materials
* Proactively cultivate, develop, and maintain key relationships in the community, including individuals, nonprofits, corporations, professional organizations, educational institutions.
Requirements
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively; talent and experience in building consensus.
* Demonstrated experience conceiving, developing, and implementing programming.
* Successful experience in developing participatory experiences.
* Ability to collaboratively manage multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
* Strategic planning experience.
* Ability to develop plans and budgets, allocate resources, and ensure compliance with administrative and fiscal policies.
* Knowledge of contemporary social, political, cultural, and environmental issues in Vancouver and beyond.
* Experience with digital initiatives in the arts and humanities.
* Experience in creative event planning and project management.
* Ability to work across a range of media from print to social media platforms.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external people.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience working with families and kids and school programs a plus.
* Degree in humanities or social sciences and knowledge of design and urban history preferred.
Hours: 35 hours per week. The Museum works a flexible work week schedule and frequent evening and weekend work may be required.
Note: This position falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE local 15.
