Dear colleagues,

Do any of you know of any museums (anywhere in Canada) that have received "Qualified Donee" status from Canada Revenue Agency?

Our organization's application to CRA for "Qualified Donee" status (a charitable status that would enable us to receive donations and issue our own tax receipts without going through one of our partner municipalities) has gone into limbo. The application has been "pending" for over a year. Our governing body is a bi-municipal Commission, created through by-laws of two separate municipalities. We applied for "Qualified Donee" status based on our legal counsel's advice that our Commission fulfills one of the CRA's criteria - that of "a municipal or public body performing a function of government in Canada".

If any of you have information to share regarding museums that have achieved "Qualified Donee" status (or have had application for such status denied), I would be very interested in speaking with you CONFIDENTIALLY.

Please contact me by phone or e-mail at the address below. I would be most grateful for your help.

With thanks,
Nancy
