Meet Leigh Square's Latest Artists-in-Residence:
Laura G. and Ninna Snider - The Muck Sisters
April 6th to June 7th, 2016
The City of Port Coquitlam is excited to welcome back Laura G. and Ninna Snider - the Muck Sisters! Laura and Ninna recently spent the past three months mucking it up at the Gathering Place during their first residency. They had such a great time that they decided to join us for another term! The artists return to the arts village as the centre's tenth and eleventh Artists-in-Residence from April 6th to June 2nd in the Outlet at 2248 McAllister Avenue, Port Coquitlam.
The Muck Sisters both bring their own unique skills making fun mixes of functional, fun, and whimsical work that will surely delight and brighten up the Port Coquitlam community. Together they have recently dubbed the name Cup-a-tude to their works, vessels depicted with faces of people and animals, and are excited to explore this body of work together to see where they can take it.
The artistic endeavours of Ninna and Laura are very hands on, fun, and of great interest to those who have enjoyed it. They're interested in pushing the outer limits of making functional dishes into fun and comic-like items that pique the interests of all sorts of people.
By sharing this process publicly they will have time to talk with observers and develop ideas as they meet the people interested in their art (and who frequent Leigh Square and the Outlet).
Ninna and Laura will not only be piquing the public's interests in their creations as they walk by, but will also be offering the following workshop opportunities for the community:
April 19th: Pinch Pot Critters - 12-4pm
May 18th: Masks of Clay - 3-6pm
May 26th: Cup-a-tudes - 3-6:30pm
Members of the public can visit Laura and Ninna at The Outlet at Leigh Square between the hours of 9:30am and 3pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays from April 6th to June 2nd. To view more of their work, please visit Laura at www.sisterearthclayworks.com<http://www.sisterearthclayworks.com> or Ninna at www.muckabout.ca<http://www.muckabout.ca> .
If you are interested in applying for a residency, please email Leigh Square at arts at portcoquitlam.ca<mailto:arts at portcoquitlam.ca> or call 604.927.8400 for more information. We are currently seeking artists for the fall of 2016 and for the 2017 in-take.
