*New Youth Theatre Programs announced for 2017 at the Caetani Centre*
The Caetani Centre is pleased to announce that they will be expanding their
programs to include a youth theatre program, to be taught by Amelia
Sirianni beginning January 2017. This is made possible by the completion of
the new facility on-site, the Caetani Studio Gallery, which just opened in
July 2016, and has given the Centre a much needed new community space for
programming, workshops and events.
“The facility was built by the community and for the community,” said board
chairperson Angelika Jaeger. “The funds for the construction of the Studio
Gallery were raised thanks to the success of several past Splash of Red
fundraising events. It is the artists, sponsors, donors, and volunteers who
built this. We are so grateful to have such tremendous support for this
organization.”
“Sveva Caetani was a local mentor, teacher and artist/writer.” Said
executive director Susan Brandoli. “She would be pleased that we are
continuing her legacy, especially in developing youth programs. When she
donated the house and grounds to the City of Vernon over 20 years ago, she
envisioned a vibrant and flourishing cultural centre that would benefit the
citizens of the North Okanagan. We are working hard to open access to the
facility and achieve her vision.”
In this new youth theatre program, students will be introduced to acting
techniques and theatre skills – improvisation, character building, script
analysis, creative movement, and vocal work. Classical theatre
(Shakespeare!) along with contemporary plays will be studied and performed
in a workshop style environment where emphasis will be put on directing and
collaborating together as a team. Throughout the ten week session and a
final showcase performance, these budding young thespians will hone the
necessary skills to succeed in theatre and beyond.
*Amelia Sirianni* is originally from Vernon, BC. Amelia spent the last
decade working as a professional actor in Toronto, ON. She received her
formal professional training at the Randolph Academy for the Performing
Arts and has since had the privilege of performing on stages across North
America as well as in film and television. Favourite roles include Deedee
Doodle in “The Doodlebops Live” national tours, Strawberry Shortcake in
“Strawberry Shortcake and Friends” North American tours, and Widget in the
runaway Fringe and Next Stage Festival hit “The Tiki Bikini Beach Paradise
Party A-Go-Go”. Globe & Mail critic J. Kelly Nestruck singled out her
“Muumuu-clad Widget” as a favourite performance.
