[BCMA] Royal BC Museum launches a summertime Ice Age art contest for BC kids

Brrr! Royal BC Museum kicks off an Ice Age art contest for kids

Victoria, BC - Today the Royal BC Museum is launching a cool contest with a very hot prize for BC kids ages 5-15: draw, sketch or paint a creature from the Ice Age, for a chance to win a trip to the Royal BC Museum for a major celebration.

The contest is perfect for any kid who's mushy-hearted about mammoths, sublimely passionate about sabre-toothed tigers, or madly in love with mastodons.  Contest entries can be realistic or fantastical, serious or comical. It's creativity that we want to see in the artwork.

The contest closes on September 20, 2016, with contest prize winners selected on October 4, 2016.  The Royal BC Museum will fly winners (and an adult chaperone) to Victoria for a special event on October 25, 2016, to help us celebrate the Royal BC Museum turning 130 years old.

Along with the flight, the prize pack includes a two-night hotel stay in Victoria and an exclusive invitation to our 130th. Winners will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour and be invited to become "ambassadors" of the Royal BC Museum for their schools, wherever they live in the province.

Of course, since the contest has an Ice Age theme, winners will also access to our feature exhibition, Mammoths: Giants of the Ice Age, and free admission to see IMAX Victoria's partner film, Mammoths: Titans of the Ice Age.

There will be 24 winners in total.  Three winners will be selected from each of BC's eight regions; each of the three winners will represent an age range: 5-8; 9-12; 13-15.
