Village Vibe Performing Arts Series*-Saturday, July 30th from 2-4pm at Leigh Square
Allie McDonald. Allie McDonald has been performing since she was a child, and went on to earn her Bachelor's in Music from the University of Alberta. Hailing from Fort McMurray, Alberta and coming from Newfoundland heritage, Allie began by singing folk music in the backyard with her uncles, moved on to sing classical music, and now considers her genre "often-acoustic Indie Pop". She debuted in the lower mainland with "Take Me Anywhere" in 2010, and has recently released her newest CD "Addicted".
Ranj Singh. Ranj Singh blends a masala of Indian melodies and rhythms with Western Folk to create a unique Canadian Indo-Folk genre belonging only to him. As a self-taught singer songwriter, Ranj is currently working on his 3rd album - a raw acoustic album featuring is signature melodies and distinctive "up-stroke" riffs on his 12-string guitar. The album is slated for a 2016 release. Recently Ranj has returned to music as a solo artist, following a serious vehicle collision. He's stronger than ever and happy to be pursuing his passion for music again, and often collaborates with former band members and musicians to meet the needs of a given venue or event.
Music in the Park**-Sunday, July 31st from 2-4pm at Leigh Square
The Circus in Flames. The Circus in Flames has produced two critically acclaimed recordings (The Circus in Flames, and A Little Bit of Gasoline). Doug Andrew formed The Circus in Flames in the mid-90's when asked to play at a friend's St. Patrick's Day bash. It has since grown to include various musicians including Brian Barr on mandolin and electric guitar, Phil Addington on bass, Brian Thalken on banjitar and Ed Goodine on drums. The group's "unique but rooted musical vision" (Vue Weekly) has inspired the description "garage string band" but its sound can be difficult to pin down. Although there is a certain familiarity about the music, stemming from its roots in traditional country, folk and blues, at its heart are Andrew's songs. Their "slightly twisted, always interesting storyline lyrics" are delivered "with an energetic thrust that falls just shy of reckless abandon".
THIS WEEK'S FARMER'S MARKET THEME IS - Doggie Days
