[BCMA] [MEDIA RELEASE] Spring Break art and theatre camps offered at Kelowna Art Gallery

Ignite your child's creativity during Spring Break art camps

March 1, 2016 - Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Art Gallery and Bumbershoot Theatre have teamed up to offer parents a creative solution for how to keep their children busy during the upcoming Spring Break. Art Break offers two exciting weeks of camps filled with opportunities to create art and explore theatre for children ages 5 to 10.

The camps will run from 9 am to 3 pm daily during the weeks of March 14 to 18 and March 21 to 24. Participating children will divide their time between the Kelowna Art Gallery and Bumbershoot Theatre each day, and will also be inspired by short field trips to different places in the Cultural District. At the gallery, children will take part in fun and inspiring activities, such as painting, sculpture, drawing, mixed media, and printmaking, while being inspired by the current exhibitions on view. At Bumbershoot Theatre, they will explore theatre through a variety of games and play. Every day will offer something new, so registering for multiple days is encouraged.

"Our focus is encouraging their creativity and showing children how rewarding actively participating in the arts can be," says Nataley Nagy, Executive Director at the Kelowna Art Gallery. "In addition to creative exploration for participants, Art Break can offer parents peace of mind that their children will be spending Spring Break with their peers in a nurturing and safe environment."

Class sizes for all of the camps are limited, allowing for lots of one-on-one instruction to enrich the children's experience. All programs highlight skill-building and self-expression, as well as the introduction of new ideas and artistic techniques.

The cost per day for camps is $50.00 for members of the Kelowna Art Gallery, and $65.00 for the general public. Registrants who sign up for any four classes will receive a fifth class free. Daily drop-ins will also be available.
