A Close Shave Presentation

Have you ever wanted to learn how to shave with a straight razor? Worried you might cut yourself? Don't trust learning off the internet? Now is your chance to learn from the professionals at The Gentlemen's Shop and Shave Parlour and the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives, while raising money for Movember charities.

The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives is teaming up with local businesses, organizations, and experts who have "historic skills" to present their new educational series for adults, "The Vernon Museum Field School."Museum Educational Coordinator, Gabriel Newman explains, "I created the Field School to highlight and celebrate these great sources of historical practical knowledge we have in this community. It is one thing to talk about history, it is another thing entirely to do."

Three times a year the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives will organize an educational event around the Okanagan where participants can learn different historical skills. This season, the Field School will begin at the Gentlemen's Shoppe and Shave Parlour on November 20th at 10:00am, for a demonstration on shaving with a straight blade. In March, there will be an opportunity to "Spend time in an Inventor's Workshop," and in late June, a hands on field demonstration by Fieldstone Grainery on using a scythe, the traditional way of harvesting wheat. Newman plans to make the field school an annual series.

The "Close Shave" presentation takes place at the Gentlemen's Shoppe and Shave Parlour November 20th at 10:00. As space is limited, please purchase your tickets early at the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives, to avoid disappointment. Cost is $10/person with all proceeds going to Movember Charities.
