The Victoria & Vancouver Island Greek Community Society offers an
opportunity for a summer student to work in the Greek Heritage Project
Museum. The GHPM accepts, collects, conserves, records and displays
information, photographs, artifacts and genealogical data relating to the
experience of Greek immigrants and their descendants on Victoria and
Vancouver Island.

As the successful applicant you will work with the Vice President of
V&VIGCS and the volunteer curator of the GHP Museum to collect oral history
interviews, research related information and documentation, scan
photographs and documents, record the results and work on the GHP Museum
component of the community’s website.

For the Canada 150 display you will research the presence and activities of
Greeks of Vancouver Island in 1867.

Desired level of education preferred is completion of 2nd year in Fine
Arts, History, Anthropology, Archeology, Greek or Native Studies and/or
planning a career in museums/archives.

You will produce an exhibition of your results for Greek Fest by August 25,
2017.

You are eligible to apply if you are currently a full time student,
planning to return to full time studies in September 2017, are between the
ages of 16 and 30 and legally entitled to work in Canada. You must be
available to complete the contract and be registered with the on-line Young
Canada Works candidate inventory. www.youngcanadaworks.ca

You are able to work independently managing multiple priorities and
deadlines, have excellent writing and editing skills, are familiar with MS
Office Suite, and experienced in conducting interviews. Competence with
digital recorders, scanners and cameras is expected. Fluency in Modern
Greek and website development are assets.

You are available for occasional evening or weekend meetings. Having your
own transportation would be a benefit.

Contract is from May 1 to August 31, 2017, 35 hours per week for 16 weeks
or a total of 560 hours at $15.00 per hour plus 4% holiday pay.
