** The O'Keefe Ranch Turns 150!
------------------------------------------------------------

We are only weeks away from opening our 2017 season and the staff and volunteers have been busy as ever preparing for another wonderful year ahead. The garden flowers are beginning to bloom, our mama sheep are ready to bring new life to the Ranch, and the Pavilion expansion project and St. Anne’s Church restoration are almost complete. This year the Ranch will celebrate 150 years on June 15^th, but we plan to make the most of the milestone event all season long. If you haven’t been to the Ranch in a while, this is the year to visit us again!

We’re about to head into what will be my second season at the Ranch – as well as our sesquicentennial (spell that ten times fast!) There will be a ton of changes in the Greenhow Museum this year—we have two new exhibitions (Staying Home: Photography, Family, Memory, and The History of O’Keefe Ranch in 50 Objects), as well as a new permanent exhibition space, Cowboy Treasures, built specifically to house the beautiful Jade Saddle, on long-term loan from the White Family. We’re also introducing the brand new Greenhow Art Gallery in the museum, a space with rotating art exhibitions. The inaugural show features artworks by Rob Dinwoodie (you might know him from the Famous Cowboy Dinner Show, on every Friday night in July and August).

What’s up next this summer? We will be hiring Heritage Interpreters to, as always, offer fantastic (and fun) tours of the O’Keefe Mansion. When they’re not out chatting with visitors, they’re at work in the museum completing curatorial projects. Last year we had students completing research projects (on the Chinese Cooks, women of the Okanagan, and on Elizabeth Greenhow’s family Bible); digitizing photographic objects, cleaning artifacts, and transcribing accession records…just to name a few projects. One of our student projects this summer will be helping to re-house pieces from our textile collection, while I will be continuing to make upgrades to how we store our artifact collection and to our displays in the Stagecoach House and the Antique Stove Gallery. ** 4^th Annual Black Tie and Blue Jeans Gala

Tickets are now available. Join us in our biggest fundraising event of the season. Along with engaging entertainment, live music, wagon rides and stagecoach rides, Mansion tours, and photo booth, guests will enjoy a fabulous dinner and live auction with Donald Raffin. Emcee: Jason Armstrong. Monies raised at this event will support the Greenhow Museum renovation project. Tickets are $75 each. You don't want to miss it!

** Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in volunteering? We are always looking for new volunteers to share their interests and skills at the Ranch. There are opportunities in a variety of areas including the Museum, Special Events, Fundraising, Office Support, Farm Animal Care and Cleaning, Photography, the General Store, Community Events, Field of Screams, and pretty much anything else you can think of ranch related! If you are interested please come to our Volunteer Orientation & Meet and Greet on Saturday, April 29 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
