As we near the application closing deadline for the BCMA Mentorship
Program, it's a good time to ask yourself: "am I a mentor?"

If you answered yes, that's great! If you answered no, then maybe you're
not realizing the impact you have on your fellow staff, volunteers, and
students. Everyone and anyone can be a mentor, no matter your position,
pay scale, or institution's size.

Mentors provide much-needed knowledge, guidance, and perspective to those
they work with. They listen, encourage, prompt, help, and demonstrate
skills or know-how based on their own experience. They can help junior
staff, peers, and even superiors make the best of their work and their own
potential.

Mentors are also learners - they like to explore and grow and improve
themselves. They too benefit from new perspectives, ideas, and experience
from their mentee.

The BCMA Mentorship Program facilitates sector-wide mentorship for Emerging
Museum Professionals over an eight-month period. Mentorship participants
are given a suggested discussion/activity framework to use and are paired
based on areas of expertise/interest.

Now ask yourself: "can I be a mentor?"
