Position Title: Programs Manager
ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:
The Robert Bateman Centre (TRBC) is a project of the Bateman Foundation, a national public charity formed to conserve and interpret the largest and most representative body of Robert Bateman's work in the world. We connect people to the magic of nature through art.
The Robert Bateman Centre showcases more than 80 works by Robert Bateman, spanning his seven decades as one of Canada’s premier artists. Located in Victoria’s dynamic downtown inner harbour the Centre houses a gallery and a shop, and hosts a rotation of exhibits and a full schedule of educational and public programming.
Our mission is to inspire a passion for nature in people of all ages, through the arts, observation, experience and dialogue. Encouraging connections to nature through experiential learning programs for school aged kids is a top priority.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Programs Manager is responsible for coordinating public programs and is accountable for the effective delivery and marketing of education programs at the Robert Bateman Centre.
Programs include K – 12 school programs, custom adult programs, family & youth programs, gallery tours, special events and outdoor programs.
Programs are delivered primarily by the Programs Manager with some programs delivered by paid contractors within the TRBC Program Committee, which is compromised of educators, program coordinators, and volunteer docents. The Programs Manager would work within the Program Committee and be a coordinating resource for all paid contractors.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the planning and coordination of public programs for targeted public audiences and members of the TRBC
- Deliver education programs to schools within Greater Victoria from grades K – 12.
- Coordinate the delivery of NatureSketch, the TRBC’s signature public program to family and adult audiences
- Work with Managing Director to develop and maintain the programs budget
- Coordination of staff, program facilitators, contractors, docents and volunteers in the scheduling and management of programs
- Prepare evaluations and reports of programs and events, including information required for the reporting and application of sponsorships and grant applications
- Assist the Marketing & Sales Manager with the promotion of programs
- Coordinate the safe storage and distribution of information, equipment and supplies required for programs and events
- Coordinate education program bookings
- Manage the Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer Program
- Participate in the development of new educational programs and partnerships.
- Adapt and deliver programs to non-school audiences as required
- Train other educators, interpreters, interns or volunteers as required

Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and work experience.
- A minimum of two years of experience teaching in a formal or informal education
environment; art and environmental education preferred
- Familiarity with the BC curriculum and inquiry-based learning
- Experience in educational program development, particularly related to grades K – 12.
- Artistic or visual creative proficiency would be an asset
- Experience in educational program coordination, promotion and marketing
- Experience in museum/gallery programming, special events, hospitality tourism or related areas
- Experience working with the public is required
- Experience working with volunteers is required
- Proven success record when coordinating or supervising people
- Fluent in English, with strong communication skills
- Working knowledge of of Microsoft Office suite, including MS Excel, MS Word MS Outlook
- Strong ability to understand and navigate new online technologies
- Experience with social media an asset
- Education degree an asset
- Certified criminal record check with clean record is required
- Valid BC drivers license with clean driving record is required
Position: Full-time and permanent. Working weekends may be required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
• The position is for full time hours of 37.5 hrs/week, which will include working some weekends and may include working holidays.
• The salary range for this position is $33,000 - $40,000. This amount is reviewed annually.
• The vacation allocation is for 3 weeks per year.
• A health benefits plan is offered which includes medical, dental and vision plans.
