[BCMA] Repatriation Symposium: Mar 29-31 in Kelowna, BC

The BC Museums Association is honoured to be a supporter of the upcoming
Repatriation Symposium, which is being presented March 29-31, 2017 in
Kelowna, BC by the Royal BC Museum in partnership with the First Peoples'
Cultural Council.

*Indigenous Perspectives on Repatriation: Moving Forward Together*

The Royal British Columbia Museum, in partnership with the First Peoples’
Cultural Council will host a symposium on the repatriation of cultural
belongings, ancestral remains and intangible cultural heritage, at the
Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, March 29 – 31, 2017.

Repatriation is an urgent and enduring priority for many First Nations in
British Columbia and for Indigenous peoples across the globe. Over the past
few decades, many communities have made great efforts to establish
relationships with institutions and to repatriate ancestral remains and
cultural objects to their communities.

On March 29–31, 2017, Indigenous organizations, cultural practitioners,
scholars and museum and archives professionals will convene in Kelowna to
review past and current efforts and begin the process of identifying
long-term strategies and resources required for First Nations to
successfully secure the return of ancestral remains, sacred objects and
intangible cultural heritage.
