JOB OPPORTUNITY

Position:   Bilingual Museum Interpreter (Auxiliary)
Reports to:     Education Programs Manager
Salary:  Pay Grade 12 + 1 ($17.13/hr + 12% in lieu of benefits to start)
Posting Date:  January 20, 2017
Closing Date:  February 15, 2017


Nature of the Position: This is an Auxiliary position reporting to the Education Programs Manager.  The Bilingual Interpreter position presents educational programs to school aged children including setting up and taking down any required program materials.  Work involves learning and delivering established curriculum based school programming to elementary school classes in French and English.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
*         Learn and present MOV school programming to school aged children in French and English
*         Use objects, artefacts and photographs from the teaching collection as directed;
*         Care for galleries, collections and supplies and sets up equipment, artifacts and supplies needed for programs
*         Build positive working relationships with MOV staff and volunteers and MOV visitors
*         Explain and elaborate on MOV Vision and educational mandate to teachers, parents, students
*         Perform related work as required.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:
*         Engaging presence and excellent communication and public-speaking skills
*         Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults in English and French;
*         Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers and visitors;
*         One year of relevant experience working in a learning environment with children as the primary audience
*         Knowledge about curriculum based learning environments and objectives
*         Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and function effectively without direct supervision
*         Must be punctual and reliable.

Hours:   Typical hours of work are between 9:00am-2:30pm, Monday through Friday.    Scheduling is based on operational requirements and shifts are dependent on school program bookings. There is no guarantee of regular shifts or minimum hours per pay period.

Note: This position falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE local 15.
