[BCMA] Archives Intern Position - Greater Vernon Museum and Archives

The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives is a well-regarded repository of local history, both in the North Okanagan and throughout the British Columbia heritage community. The museum and archives mandate is to contribute to Vernon's future by promoting knowledge and understanding of the past through the collection, preservation, research, exhibition, and interpretation of artifacts and archival materials relevant to the history of the area.
The archives intern will work as part of the archives team, assisting with the assessment and processing of a records backlog, using RAD to arrange, describe, and enter each record set into an InMagic database. The intern will also have the opportunity to work with archival staff on various projects including the updating of a disaster preparedness plan, and the revision and production of a local history book. Other functions of the position will include the development and presentation of archival outreach programs and displays, assisting with research inquiries, and conducting tours of the archives. The intern's experience will also extend from the archives into the museum itself, working with the museum staff members, as opportunities arise.
Qualifications
* Recent archival studies graduate with training in RAD (Rules for Archival Description)
* Experience in arranging and describing archival records
* Good communication skills - written and verbal
* Good computer and research skills
* Good organizational skills
* Good problem solving and multi-tasking abilities
* Attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Flexible and able to work in different work environments
* Legible hand writing / printing
* Ability to lift 50 lbs.
* Valid Driver's license and vehicle
Eligibility:
* are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24 months at the start of employment;
* are an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, that is, not employed full-time;
* are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
* are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
* will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
* have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.
