Grown-ups have all the fun
at the Royal BC Museum this August
VICTORIA, BC-Embrace your inner child and experience the nostalgia of summer camp (with a grown-up twist) at the Royal BC Museum.
Pack a lunch, ditch the kids and bring a friend for a Day Camp like no other. Sneak behind the scenes, meet knowledgeable staff, make connections with our feature and core exhibitions and experience fun hands-on activities. Each grown-up Day Camp has a different theme: August 11<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104516/grown-day-camp> is Arts & Crafts, August 18<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104514/grown-day-camp> is Campfire (Hi)stories and August 25<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104515/grown-day-camp> is Nature Merit Badge. Grown-up Day Camp<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/learn/adult-programming/grown-camp> takes place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and is $50 per person (10 per cent member discount).
Don't stop with Day Camp. For a complete trip down memory lane, come to Night at the Museum - Grown-ups Only<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104517/night-museum-%E2%80%93-grown-ups-only>! This is the first time the Royal BC Museum has hosted a 19+ sleepover. Share ghost stories around the campfire, create nostalgic summer camp crafts and explore behind the scenes after hours by flashlight. This sleepover includes a $10 voucher to our on-site Food Trucks, live entertainment and a delicious breakfast. Grown-up drinks are available for purchase. Night at the Museum runs from Saturday, August 26 at 6:30 pm to Sunday, August 27 at 9:00 am. Tickets are $80 per person (10 percent member discount). Combine one Grown-Up Day Camp with Night at the Museum-Grown-Ups Only for $115 per person. These events are 19+.
It's not too late to help your kids create amazing memories. There are still some open spots in Story Camp (ages 7-11), a full day camp with fun field trips, engaging guest speakers and behind-the-scenes access to the museum. Take part in a Cedar-Weaving Workshop<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104830/cedar-weaving-workshop> in the Our Living Languages exhibition. Learn about the importance of cedar in Coast Salish culture, from transportation to clothing, and how to weave a cedar rose (one that you can take home). Included with museum admission or membership.
Discover the connection between Canoes and Culture<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104789/canoes-and-cultures> in the Our Living Languages exhibition. Learn about the importance of canoes to the Coast Salish people, handle objects and make your own Coast Salish canoe model out of paper. Take part on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:00 pm throughout August. Included with museum admission or membership. The Cedar-Weaving and Canoes and Culture workshops are proudly sponsored by Helijet.

Hear a different kind of music on Sunday, August 13 and 20 when Provincial Carillonneur Rosemary Laing gives a free recital<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104485/carillon-recital> from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm. Gather round and grab a seat in the Native Plant garden by the Carillon to listen.
On Sunday, August 13 join Fieldtrippers: Witty's Walk<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/104230/fieldtrippers-wittys-walk>. Curator of Vertebrates Dr. Gavin Hanke leads a nature walk about the habitats and animals of Witty's Lagoon Regional Park. Meet in front of the Nature House in the main parking lot of Witty's Lagoon Regional Park. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome. Please leave dogs at home. Suggested donation is $5 per person.

Join Ocean Networks Canada, the Canadian Network for Ocean Education and the Royal BC Museum for two days of ocean-focused Pro-D on Monday, August 28 from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm and Tuesday, August 29 from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm. Explore cool, weird and wonderful marine creatures in the museum's collections and dive into ONC's Ocean Sense program to explore learning resources for the BC curriculum integrating western science with Indigenous place-based knowledge.
