** O'Keefe Ranch Opens on Saturday, May 6th

There may still be snow on the ground at the ranch but the staff and volunteers have been hard at work and busy preparing for what's to be expected as the best year ever, as we celebrate 150 years!  Mark your calendar, the ranch will be open to visitors from near and far.

Let's Celebrate the big 1-5-0!
O’Keefe Ranch was founded June 15^th, 1867—just two weeks before Canadian Confederation. As we celebrate Canada 150 in 2017, O’Keefe Ranch will also be hosting special events to mark its sesquicentenary. We’ve got lots of events planned for our 150^th birthday, including a birthday party (with cake!), a pole-barn dance party, and a community celebration and picnic. We’re also hosting Family Fun Days throughout the season, and visitors can check out our History of O’Keefe Ranch in 50 Objects Exhibition—let us know which object YOU think is the most important to our story, as you wander around the site to find them all.

There have been a number of projects in the works over the winter months that will make your next visit even better than the last., including remodeling of the Greenhow Museum, the St.Anne's Church restoration, and the Pavillion expansion.

We are also happy to have Indigo and Diesel return to the farm - the finest team of Percherons in all of Spallumcheen! The farm animals have kept well during the cold, and it won't be long now until our expert animal caretaker Tambria will be helping with the arrival of some adorable lambs.

Introducing the All-New Cowboy Treasures
During the off-season, we’ve been renovating an under-utilized space in the Greenhow Museum to create a brand new gallery to show off our most precious cowboy treasures—including our most unique bridles, spurs and bits, and of course, the one and only Jade Saddle (it turns 50 this year!) on loan from the White Family. In addition to the Gallery of Cowboy Treasures, visitors in 2017 will find two brand new exhibits and a new art display in the Greenhow Museum. We’re also installing an exhibit on Native Cowboys in the Cowboy Bunkhouse.

Learn the Trade of Blacksmithing
If you would like to learn to move steel on an anvil and work the forge to perfection, you can learn to make your very own dinner triangle, punch or tomahawk (who doesn't want their own Tomahawk?). Resident Blacksmith Patrick McIvor has 3 remaining classes this month, but don't wait long to sign up, space is limited in the shop.
