THERE'S STILL TIME TO REGISTER!
The Study Tour of Indigenous Heritage Sites in Southern Alberta will provide
a unique experience to visit these sites, meet with community members,
experience Blackfoot protocol, and learn about the culture and history of
Treaty 7 people. (contact CatherineC.Cole at telus.net to register - only a

The Indigenous Heritage Roundtable participants will Walk for
Reconciliation; learn about the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), hear a
survivor story, hear from heritage organizations named in the TRC about how
they are responding to the Calls to Action, and discuss how we can all
respond at individual, local, regional, and international levels. The
Roundtable will be co-chaired by former ICOM President Alissandra Cummins,
Director of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society and Jisgang, Nika
Collison, a member of the Ts'aahl clan of the Haida Nation who has served as
curator for the Haida Gwaii Museum for nearly 20 years. Additional speakers
include: John Moses, a member of the Delaware and Upper Mohawk bands of the
Six Nations of the Grand River Territory near Brantford, Ontario, the son,
grandson and great-grandson of residential school survivors and Dr. Reg
Crowshoe, a well-known Blackfoot ceremonialist who lives on the Peigan
reserve in southern Alberta and is Executive Director of the Oldman River
Cultural Centre, and more!
The Heritage and Nation Building Symposium provides an opportunity to learn
about heritage and national identity in different parts of the Commonwealth,
museums and human rights, and sustainable development. Featured speakers
include: International Council of Museums' President Suay Aksoy (Turkey) on
"Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the Unspeakable in Museums" and
Head, International Slavery Museum, National Museums Liverpool, UK Dr.
Richard Benjamin on "Agitators & Activists: Museums and their Relevance in a
Postcolonial World." The symposium features speakers from nearly 20
countries, a unique opportunity to gain a global perspective within Canada.
