The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) and the Western Museums Association (WMA) are excited to announce that registration for UNITE is now open!
UNITE will focus on the ways museums can demonstrate courageous leadership, undertake controversial projects, and make a positive impact in their communities. Delegates from both sides of the border will come together to explore how to unite across sectors, across communities, and across borders to work towards innovative and inclusive solutions. As integrated community institutions, museums must address and adapt to the demands of their local, national, and global communities. These range from equality, diversity, and accessibility, to the current economic situation, climate change, digitization, and shifting community demographics.
This year's Conference includes:
* Three full days of sessions geared towards empowering delegates to share unique stories, challenges, and successes from across Canada and the United States;
* Keynote address from Tony Butler, Chair and Founder of the Happy Museum Project and Executive Director of Derby Museums;
* Closing Plenary Panel with Robert R. Janes, Carol Mayer, and Laura Huerta Migus that will discuss the ways museums unite to improve communities by addressing social issues.
* A two-day international trade show, including the latest products and services from American and Canadian exhibitors;
* Two days of Pre-Conference activities, including:
o Pre-Conference Study Tours to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, Reynolds-Alberta Museum, and Royal Alberta Museum Acheson Collections Centre;
o Four Pre-Conference Workshop opportunities, including tours of the Art Gallery of Alberta, Loyal Edmonton Regimental Museum, Telephone Historical Centre, and University of Alberta Museums;
* Evening events, including the Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony at McDougall United Church, a designated Municipal Historic Resource, and offsite events at the Alberta Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre and the Art Gallery of Alberta.
