Hello all,
I am passing on a query about a mystery artifact from Sarah Beaulieu, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Archaeology, SFU. She has been excavating the Morrissey World War I internment camp near Fernie BC and has found the artifact in the attached pictures.
The camp held men of Ukrainian, German and other Eastern European origin, with a few women and children. Some were Canadian citizens. The guards were Canadians of various ethnic origins. Guard families may have been present as well.
It appears to be whole, not broken off something, and has one good side. Made from a yet to be determined metal. May have been plated.
Any and all ideas welcome on this one. Please direct your answers to Sarah at sbeaulie at sfu.ca.
Thanks!
Barbara
