Come and work in the beautiful eastern Fraser Valley! Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society is seeking a Manager/Curator for our Museum & Visitor Info Centre. Qualifications
● 3 years of experience working in the field of curatorial, cultural resource management, museums, archives, heritage collections management or conservation.
● Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in museum studies, archival studies, history, archaeology, conservation science, or other specialty relevant to the position. OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
● Experience in developing relationships with a variety of internal or external stakeholders (such as government, community organizations, non-profit organizations, etc.);
● Experience or knowledge of non-profit work;
● Experience in assisting with or creating exhibits;
● Experience in planning, developing, and delivering museum and archive programs to a wide range of audiences;
● Experience in grant writing and fundraising;
● Experience and knowledge in collections management: curatorial, archival, or conservation;
● Experience in training and supervising staff and/or volunteers;
● Ability to monitor a budget;
● Ability to communicate effectively - listening to others and communicating articulately to inform, influence and involve;
● Personally connects with others; highly developed inter-personal skills;
● Effective planning and organizational skills;
● Flexibility
Core activities
● Oversee day-to-day operations of the Agassiz-Harrison Museum & Archives and Visitor Information Centre, including opening and closing, cash handling, safety and security, visitor services, research services, tourist information services, volunteer management, special events and public programming.
● Acquiring, selecting, evaluating and installing objects and archival records for exhibits and undertaking research on collections, ensuring that material culture history and story are well presented and documented.
● Recruiting volunteers and hiring staff. Developing training materials and delivering training to staff and volunteers on topics of collections management, archival practices and site operations.
● Oversees budgets, liaises with bookkeeper and reviews spreadsheets.
● Seeking out funding opportunities and writing grants and reports.
● Marketing and promoting the Museum and Visitor Information Centre.
● Liaising with the Board of Directors of the Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society.
● Liaising with local, provincial and federal government agencies.
● Supervision of staff, students and volunteers.
● Other duties as required.
Preferred skills
● Computer skills including operation of software programs such as Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Word Press, and Past Perfect Museum software
● Writing skills
● Organization, administrative, and records management skills
● Photography, scanning, and photograph editing skills
● Artifact handling and preventative conservation skills
● Social media skills (FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram)
● Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
