EDUCATION ASSISTANT - SUMMER STUDENT
The City of Delta is in the process of building a new museum to serve our community. With a mission to celebrate Delta's past, present and future culture and identity with its citizens, the new Delta Cultural Centre will be a community hub for cultural activity, providing a rich mosaic of daily programs, hands-on interactives, artwork, demonstrations, and interpretive displays that encourage conversations about the cultures and identity of Delta. During the construction of this new facility, the museum is engaging the community through interactive programming throughout Delta.
We are looking for a creative, energetic individual to develop a series of exciting programs for all ages. As the Education Assistant, you will plan and present a series of walking tour programs and outreach booths at different locations within the community. You will gain experience in museum programming, education, historical research, designing and leading community programs, collaboration, and community engagement.
You're a great fit for this position if you:
* Are enrolled in a recognized program for Education, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies or similar and have an interest in history or museums
* Have strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience in public speaking or program presentation
* Have previous experience delivering programs to children or adults, and experience working with public
* Are able to plan program activities; some experience with or knowledge of lesson planning and/or program development preferred
* Have strong organizational skills and are able to effectively manage time and workload
* Are able to work independently and as part of a team
* Are able to adapt to new situations and develop creative solutions
To be considered for this opportunity you must meet the requirements of the Young Canada Works (YCW) program: You are between the ages of 15-30; You have been a full time student in the semester preceding the YCW job; and you intend to return to full time studies in the semester following your YCW job. A valid Class 5 British Columbia driver's license is required.
