Celebrate Canada's West Coast Multicultural Fishing History

RICHMOND, BC - Join us for The Pull of the Net: A Multicultural Celebration<http://gulfofgeorgiacannery.org/events/pull-of-the-net-a-multicultural-celebration>, a family-friendly, FREE event on Saturday May 5th, from 11am to 4pm at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site in Steveston.  This second annual event will feature performances, displays, activities, and food of the diverse communities which helped to shape Canada's west coast fishing industry.
Highlights include cultural performances by the Urban Heiltsuk Dance Group, Northern Shaolin Martial Arts Club, Tetsu Taiko, BC Highland Games and Scottish Festival, The Wild Moccasin Dancers, and Zougla. Workshops, demonstrations, crafts and displays will be presented by community groups including Port of Vancouver, Ocean Wise, Stream of Dreams Mural Society, Earthhand Gleaners Society, Hua Foundation, Fusako Fujiki Shodo, Full Circle First Nations, Pathways Aboriginal Youth Centre, Scandinavian Cultural Society, Steveston Tram and Museum, and more.
At 12noon, a special screening of the film All Our Fathers Relations<http://allourfathersrelations.com/> will be presented in the Boiler House Theatre.
Throughout the day, guided tours of the historic salmon canning line will be offered. Visitors can also explore The Pull of the Net feature exhibit and our new Pacific Herring: the fish that feeds the coast exhibit (opened April 2018), throughout the day.

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site of Canada is operated by the non-profit Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, on behalf of Parks Canada.
