Behind the Scenes and Late Night Adventures at the Royal BC Museum

Victoria, BC - Experience the museum as you've never before. With behind-the-scenes access, adult sleepovers and exciting new activities like architecture workshops and a First Nations pole carving program, the museum features a range of remarkable events this September.

Sleepaway camps aren't just for kids! Join us on September 1, 2018 for a grown-ups-only Egyptian-themed adventure through the museum. Grab your sleeping bag, find your favourite teddy and get ready for a night of food, entertainment and ancient Egypt-themed activities. Night at the Museum: Egypt (Adults Only)<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/105865/night-museum-egypt-adults-only> is $126 per person; 10 per cent discount for members.

Watch fresh cedar peel away under the hand tools of Tom and Perry LaFortune, master artists from the Tsawout Nation, as they carve the "Crossing Cultures and Healing" totem pole on the museum's outdoor upper plaza from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Mondays to Fridays. Access to the carving station is free, and the LaFortune brothers are happy to discuss their work and provide interpretation as they work. Find more information at http://rbcm.ca/pole.

>From heritage homes to grand civic structures, most buildings have a much deeper history than their bricks and mortar. Uncover the stories of Victoria's historic properties through the Discovering Historic Buildings workshop on September 15 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, presented by the BC Archives. Learn about some of the tools available to research historic structures: photographs, blueprints, fire insurance maps and more. Discovering Historic Buildings<https://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/106574/discovering-historic-buildings-bc-archives-workshop> is $30 per person; 10 per cent discount for members.

Get a backstage pass to select areas of the museum and see handpicked collections developed by our curators and collections managers. Included with admission, join us for one of two Behind the Scenes tours-Mammal Matters or Butterflies and More-to get an exclusive glimpse into our mammal and entomology collections. Catch the Mammal Matters tour from 11:00 am to 11:45 am and the Butterflies and More tour from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm on September 5 and 19.

Ever wanted to know what it's like to be a museum curator? Save your inquisitive questions for the annual Ask a Curator Twitter Chat taking place this year on September 12. Pose your questions on Twitter to @AskACurator and @royalbcmuseum using #AskACurator and see responses from our museum and institutions all over the world.

Watch out for the launch of our Program Guide on September 4. The Guide focuses on our upcoming 2019 feature exhibition, workshops and events and more. For more information about any of the special events above, visit our online calendar at royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/calendar<http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/calendar>.
