Please be advised of the following new job opportunities:
1. COMPETITION #18-08 ARCHIVES ASSISTANT (Young Canada Works Program)
The New Westminster Museum and Archives has a 16 week summer employment opportunity which will run from May 15, 2018 to September 1, 2018, Tuesdays to Saturdays, 35 hours per week. Please note that the staffing of the position and its duration are conditional on the approval of the grant application submitted to the Young Canada Works program.
Duties include:
* Assist the public with reference inquiries.
* Accessioning of donations.
* Develop online and in-house exhibitions.
* Arrangement and description of community records.
* Digitize, describe and index historic photographs.
* Perform other related duties.
Requirements include:
o Please note that in order to apply you must be registered in the Young Canada Works inventory at https://young-canada-works.canada.ca and that you must be between the ages of 16 and 30. You must also have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
o Completion of a year of study in an Archival Studies or Library Science program at a recognized university is desirable, but not required.
o Preference may be given to those with previous work or volunteer experience in archives.
o Familiar with the theory and principles of archives operations.
o Ability to work co-operatively as part of a team.
o Possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
o Excellent attention to detail.
o Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
o Ability to successfully pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
2. COMPETITION #18-09 MUSEUM ASSISTANT - CURATORIAL (Young Canada Works Program)
The New Westminster Museum and Archives has a 16 week summer employment opportunity which will run from May 15, 2018 to September 1, 2018, Tuesdays to Saturdays, 35 hours per week. Please note that the staffing of the position and its duration are conditional on the approval of the grant application submitted to the Young Canada Works program.
Duties include:
* Assist with cataloguing, photo documentation, deaccessioning and updating artefact database records.
* Assist with the research, development and fabrication of exhibits.
* Help the curator with basic preservation tasks.
* Develop reference materials.
* Perform light cleaning and basic maintenance.
* Deliver educational heritage programming for school children and the public.
* Perform guided tours of New Westminster Museum and Archives facilities, including Irving House and the 1937 Samson V Museum.
* Perform other related duties.
Requirements include:
o Please note that in order to apply you must be registered in the Young Canada Works inventory at https://young-canada-works.canada.ca and that you must be between the ages of 16 and 30. You must also have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
o In addition you should ideally have completed a year of study in history, education, design, or museum studies or a related program at a recognized university.
o Preference may be given to those with previous work or volunteer experience in a museum.
o You should be familiar with the theory and principles of museum operations.
o Ability to work co-operatively, as part of a team.
o Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
o You are an individual who pays close attention to detail.
o Familiar with the Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suite of products.
o Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
o Ability to work 35 hours a week from Tuesdays through Saturdays.
o Ability to successfully pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
3. COMPETITION #18-10 MUSEUM ASSISTANT - PROGRAMS (Young Canada Works Program)
The New Westminster Museum and Archives has a 16 week summer employment opportunity which will run from May 15, 2018 to September 2, 2018, Wednesdays to Sundays, 35 hours per week; however, a flexible week may be necessary in order to meet community programming needs. Please note that the staffing of the position and its duration are conditional on the approval of the grant application submitted to the Young Canada Works program
Duties include:
* Perform guided tours of New Westminster Museum and Archives facilities, including 1865 Irving House, the Samson V and Anvil Centre.
* Assist with the research, development, testing and implementation of heritage programs.
* Perform educational heritage programming for school children and the public.
* Schedule and liaise with volunteers.
* Participate in exhibition development
* Help the curator with basic preservation tasks.
* Perform other related duties.
Requirements include:
o Please note that in order to apply you must be registered in the Young Canada Works inventory at https://young-canada-works.canada.ca and that you must be between the ages of 16 and 30. You must also have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.

o Ability to work 35 hours a week from Wednesdays through Sundays.

o Ability to successfully pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
This position offers an hourly rate of $18.62 plus 12% in lieu of benefits
