*Dear BCMA members,I am writing on behalf of the Chinatown Storytelling
Centre. Opening in the Fall, we aim to share the story of Chinese Canadians
- a 150-year old history of “bravery, resilience, persistence, and what it
means to be Canadian” - as it took place right here in Vancouver. We are
reaching out to our community of museums and cultural organizations for
items relating to: - The Gold Rush and early arrival (tools; clothing;
documentation; tickets)- CPR (work contracts; tools; gear; personal
belongings of railroad workers)- Chinatown businesses
(advertising/promotional materials; business equipment; papers; signage)-
Clan Associations, societies, or clubs- Discrimination (Head Tax; Exclusion
Act; Correspondences during this time period)- WW2 (uniforms, medals,
papers, souvenirs)- Chinatown events or protests (buttons and flyers;
souvenirs; media coverage)We hope you can think of us for any current or
future deaccessioning projects or hear of any potential loans or donations
you feel might be a good fit into our collections. Suggestions and
inquiries may be sent to artifacts at chinatownfoundation.org
<artifacts at chinatownfoundation.org>. Photos of the objects are highly
recommended! Thank you very much, Alyssa Sy de JesusCuratorial Coordinator*
