Colleagues,
Session details and speaker bios have now been updated for the upcoming
AABC conference on April 13, 2018 in beautiful Victoria, BC. Information
can be found on the conference page on the AABC website
<http://aabc.ca/events/aabc-conference-2018/>.
Registration is also open for the April 12 pre-conference workshop *Archives
for GLAM Professionals*. We are pleased to offer our BCLA and BCMA
colleagues the member rate for the workshop registration.
*Do you have archival materials in your holdings but no trained Archivist
on staff to manage them? *
*Geared for organizations that may have an archival collection as part of
their Gallery, Library or Museum, this 1-day workshop will provide an
introduction to archival theory and principles and how to integrate sound
archival management within your existing processes and policies.*
*Participants will learn about appraisal, preventative preservation,
storage best practices, and exhibit and access guidelines for commonly held
record types such as photographs, negatives, textual records, audio-visual
records, and oversize materials (maps/plans). Practical examples and
solutions will be discussed throughout the day and participants are
encouraged to bring their questions!*
*This workshop is perfect for Librarians, Curatorial staff, Directors/Board
members and new-to-archives Volunteers who want to learn more.*
*About the Instructor: Lisa Glandt has a Master’s Degree in Archival
Studies and has more than 15 years working as a professional Archivist. She
has worked in a range of big and small organizations including municipal
government, academic archives, museum archives and for private
organizations. Her “in the trenches” experience from these positions is
integrated into workshops, distance education courses, advice and archival
site visits she offers as the current Education and Advisory Services (EAS)
Coordinator for the AABC.*
Don't delay to complete your conference registration and make sure to
indicate if you are interested in a social event on Thursday or Friday
night so that the Conference Cmt. can plan appropriately.
*Registration for the workshop/conference closes on April 9*.
Best regards,
Lisa
