The Sidney Museum is launching it's exhibit, Up, Up & Away, Comic-book Superheroes and our culture with a Grand Opening Sunday May 6th from Noon - 2pm.

This fun, colourful and educational exhibit shows how comic-book superheroes have reflected society's history, culture and values from their emergence in the 1930's up to the present date.

Learn how WWII influenced the villains that superheroes fought in the 1940's, how the Civil Rights movement impacted the types of superheroes that were created in the 1960's, and how the depiction of female superheroes was impacted by societal attitudes. Also, who knew that a piece of legislation known as the War Exchange Conservation Act could lead to Canada's own "Golden Age" of superhero comics in the 1940's.

On display will be superhero comic books, action figures and other paraphernalia. Activities include a scavenger hunt, superhero cartoons and superhero trivia. Suitable for kids and adults. Group tours available upon request.

Exhibit runs daily 10 am - 4pm
