New Executive Director - Stephanie Halapija
RICHMOND, BC - September 26, 2018: The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society - which operates the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site on behalf of Parks Canada - is pleased to welcome new Executive Director, Stephanie Halapija. Originally from Ontario, Stephanie moved west three years ago to become the Director of The Nisga’a Museum in Laxgalts’ap, a community located 150km northwest of Terrace, BC.
Stephanie brings with her a passion for museum leadership, curatorial work, and indigenous social issues across Canada, as well as experience in curation and development. She has contributed to exhibitions at the Museum of Anthropology, The Nisga’a Museum, the Canadian Museum of History, the British Museum and the Bill Reid Gallery, and has conducted field work in the Middle East, Canada, and Europe, with a background in Near Eastern and Classical Archaeology.
As the new Executive Director, Stephanie looks forward to solidifying the impact of the Society throughout the community, the province, and the country, by building on the authentic connections and excellent visitor experiences that are already on offer. She comments, “I love the power of building connections and true authentic visitor experiences and to do so on the scope of the Cannery’s audience is exhilarating! I believe that museums can change the world and through the power of stories like the ones you can find here, we can build better connections to each other through our shared past.”
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society’s mission is to preserve, present and promote Canada’s West Coast fishing history. The Society operates the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site on behalf of Parks Canada.
Location: 12138 Fourth Avenue at Moncton, Richmond (Steveston Village).
Hours: Open daily, year round from 10am‐5pm. Call 604‐664‐9009 for details.
