Streetcar #153 and the Extraordinary Museum of North Vancouver

The new Museum of North Vancouver is under construction in the Lower Lonsdale Shipyards District and will open in 2020. This extraordinary new facility will feature the 1908 North Vancouver Streetcar #153, currently being restored by the West Coast Railway Association. Don Evans, Chair of that organisation, will introduce the history of the North Vancouver streetcar system and discuss Streetcar #153's long road to restoration on May 1 at the Community History Centre, Lynn Valley. Don Evans has had a life long interest in trains, growing up in BC in the streamliner era. He joined the West Coast Railway Association in 1975 and has been an active community volunteer. Don has been widely recognised for his contributions to the preservation of historic rail cars and to developing strong support and public interest for 'all things rail', including playing an integral role in the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in Squamish.

Museum Director Nancy Kirkpatrick will join Don Evans to speak about the innovative new Museum of North Vancouver, providing an insight into how its extraordinary exhibits and engaging programs will inspire this community.

As well, curator Karen Dearlove will present intriguing streetcar related items from our collection and some unique artifacts that will be featured in the new Museum. Discover Indigenous masks and baskets, ship makers' patterns and other objects that hold the key to our North Vancouver stories.
