POSITION OVERVIEW
The Richmond Art Gallery is a public gallery, owned and operated by the City of Richmond. We are looking to increase our current pool of qualified Preparators for periodic employment to assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions.

Preparators perform skilled technical work involving art handling and movement, and installation of a wide variety of exhibitions.  Preparators perform work to various degrees of specialization in the following areas: art handling; condition reporting; mount making; packing and crating; matting and framing; installing two and three dimensional and new media art works and exhibitions; carpentry; the installation and maintenance of AV equipment; installation and troubleshooting of information and computer technology in exhibition and displays; performing other related tasks as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of two years minimum course work in the visual arts and one or more relevant trades appropriate to the work. A minimum of two to three years' experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas required: experience working in a museum or gallery and the techniques of safe handling and movement of works of art (required of all incumbents); packing and crating of artworks; mount making; techniques, materials and methods used in the installation of two and three-dimensional works of art; standard practices, methods and skills, materials, variety of tools and equipment for carpentry and cabinet making.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to install and maintain computer hardware and software in exhibition and perform basic hardware and software troubleshooting.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects, communication and teamwork skills required.
Demonstrated understanding of hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in the work.
Valid B.C. Driver's License; agree to become certified to drive City vehicle.
Candidate must pass and maintain a criminal and police information check.

HOURS OF WORK
Auxiliary/On-call work. Shift work with various hours. Successful candidates will be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.
