[BCMA] What is this?

Hi Chris,

They are indeed cattle brands from the various ranches in the area. Each brand is from a different family who historically ranched in Oliver. The artwork was created by local artist Leo Holcombe, who did quite a bit of work in the 1980s for the Heritage Society. You can see many of Mr. Holcombe's pieces around the museum and inside the Fairview Jail.

Hope this answers your question.

Sincerely,

Hi All,
I think they might be cattle or horse (ranch) brands. I saw similar types of symbols burned into the pillars of a Merritt BC pub&grill and my brother in-law explained that they were local area brands, some of which are still used.
Hope that helps,

Hi all;

We recently visited the Oliver Museum and District Museum and saw this intriguing item mounted on a door. Unfortunately, the attendant, who was very helpful otherwise, was not able to tell us what this is. Any ideas?
