Dear Colleagues,
The Archives Association of British Columbia is pleased to be working
together with Indigenous organizations, Indigenous communities and
cultural-memory keepers to organize 6 regional training clinics in 2019
aimed at building archival management capacity in Indigenous communities in
British Columbia as they build self-governance, develop their community
services and continue to preserve their heritage. The clinics include a
1-day workshop and site visits in each region.
The clinics are intended for Tribal/First Nations Government
administrators, Archivists, Indigenous community members or cultural memory
keepers, students, and anyone working in the field of archival or heritage
practice. The focus of the workshop "Archives 101: Archival Practice for
Indigenous Organizations" is on practical knowledge and skills that
participants will be able to utilize. During these workshops the AABC is
keen to receive feedback on how to bridge the gap between traditional
knowledge keeping and Western-developed archival practices and how the
archival community can better improve their services to meet Indigenous
needs.
The AABC is most grateful for the funding support from the Government of
Canada through the Documentary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP)
<https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/services/documentary-heritage-communities-program/Pages/dhcp-portal.aspx>
to
make this training possible. Thanks to this grant, the cost to attend the
workshop is FREE for participants. Please note that pre-registration for
the workshops is required and participants are responsible for their own
travel costs to/from the workshop venue.
Further information and a schedule of workshop dates and locations is now
available on the AABC website at

As venues are confirmed information will be updated.
Best regards,
