For Immediate Release

* New Faces at the CRAG, Same Commitment to Visual Art*

*June 28, 2019 - Campbell River, BC: *The Campbell River Art Gallery is
pleased to announce a few new additions and some changes to the Board of
Directors.

“The CRAG Board is pleased to be welcoming new members who bring a
diversity of experiences and perspectives,” says newly appointed Board
Chair Denise Mitchell-Hills. “The Board and staff are looking forward to
bringing some amazing community engagement activities, exciting exhibitions
of contemporary visual art, and to connect the people of Campbell River to
art in a local, national and international space. The experience and skills
of our new members complement the strengths of our current Board and will
assist us as we look to the future.”

The new respective Chair and Vice-Chair are Denise Mitchell-Hills and
Darren Larose. Mary-Gayle Dillon and Libby King have each been nominated
for a three-year term.

Denise Mitchell-Hills is the principal of Denise Mitchell Interiors, a
design and project management firm twice named the Campbell River Chamber
of Commerce’s Micro-Business of the Year. She is a founding member of the
Friends of the Campbell River Art Gallery and since 2002 has served on
numerous local boards, fundraising and planning committees locally
including: Tidemark Theatre; CR Hospital Foundation; Chamber of Commerce,
and the Community Foundation.

Darren Larose earned a diploma in Visual Arts from the Ottawa School of Art
and a BFA in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria and has worked
professionally in the field for fourteen years. He has painted in many
studios throughout Canada and has exhibited his art in Ottawa, Montreal,
Whistler, Victoria, and Campbell River.

Mary-Gayle Dillon is a retired consultant, biology professor and managing
director of a not-for-profit. She relocated from Kingston, Ontario to
Campbell River in 2011 with her husband, Don where they reside with their
husky, D’Arcy. Mary-Gayle strongly believes that it is important to give
back to the community in which one lives and, therefore, has been proactive
in offering her expertise as a consultant, free of charge, to many
societies in Campbell River. Her area of expertise is Board governance and
she has written a book on the subject which was widely distributed to
not-for-profits in Ontario. Of the many topics which comprise Board
Governance her interest and expertise lie in policy and policy development.
She has served on more than 35 boards and committees. Mary-Gayle is excited
about the opportunity of joining the CRAG Board. She believes that art
offers an opportunity for community engagement and provides a foundation
for community creativity.

Libby King has made Campbell River her home for eight years. She is a
creative writer with short stories published in literary magazines such as
PRISM, Grain and Prairie Fire. For the past three years she has been the
Coordinator of the Strathcona Community Health Network, a policy and
program project to improve the health and wellbeing of communities in the
Strathcona region and before that was with Greenways Land Trust.
