MOV is accepting applications for its three YCW funded Summer Student positions:
Summer Collections Assessment Technician
Summer Collections Technician
Summer Conservation Technician
All positions
Hourly Rate: $16.50 per hour + 8% in lieu of benefits and statutory holidays
Hours of Work: 35 hours regular work week
Start Date: May 13, 2019
End Date: August 28, 2019

Eligible candidates must:
* be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
* be legally entitled to work in Canada;
* be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
* be willing to commit to a work assignment lasting for 15 weeks;
* not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
* have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;
* intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
Summer Collections Assessment Technician
Pending approval of funding, the Museum of Vancouver is seeking a Summer Collections Assessment Technician to assist both with the Museum's Collection Assessment Project and with the cataloguing and digitization of new acquisitions. This temporary full-time position is funded in part by the Young Canada Works employment initiative; a joint venture of the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Parks Canada Agency.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for assessing artefacts in the Museum's collection based on their relationship to Vancouver through the use of primary records. This position will also assist in the cataloguing and digitization of new acquisitions, and aid in a storage upgrade project. The Summer Collections Assessment Technician will work closely with the Curator of Collections, Curatorial Associate and Conservator, and participate in Collection Committee, Curatorial, and all-staff meetings.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of post-secondary education in a related field (archaeology, history, library and archives, or museum studies). Previous experience in museum or archives environment involving object handling and databases is an asset. The candidate must possess superior written and oral communication skills in English, be detail oriented, manually dexterous, possess an eye for the aesthetically pleasing, be comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-faceted organization, and have enthusiasm for both museums and collections.

This temporary full-time position is funded in part by the Young Canada Works employment initiative; a joint venture of the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Parks Canada Agency.

This position will also assist in a storage upgrade and reorganization project. The successful candidate will work closely with the Curator of Collections, Curatorial Associate, and Conservator, and participate in Collections Committee, Curatorial, and all-staff meetings.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of post-secondary education in a related field (archaeology, history, human geography, museum studies, library and archives). Previous experience in museum or archives environment involving object handling and databases is an asset. Summer Conservation Technician
Pending approval of funding, the Museum of Vancouver is seeking a Summer Conservation Technician to assist with the Museum's hazardous materials tagging and rehousing project, which includes pharmaceutical collections, natural history specimens and historical costumes. This temporary full-time position is funded in part by the Young Canada Works employment initiative; a joint venture of the Dept of Canadian Heritage and the Parks Canada Agency.
The successful candidate will be exposed to a range of preventive conservation activities in the museum. The student will make enclosures for museum objects, label hazardous materials, and document proper handling precautions in the database. This student will also assist in the cataloguing and digitization of new acquisitions, and aid in a storage upgrade project for indigenous collections, providing an opportunity to participate in a broad range of collections-based work. The student will work closely with the Conservator as well as Curatorial and Collections personnel, and participate in various meetings, committees and all-staff meetings.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of post-secondary education in a related field (museum studies, archaeology, history, industrial design, sculpture). Previous experience in museum or archives environment involving object handling and mount making is an asset. The candidate must possess superior manual dexterity, written and oral communication skills in English, be detail oriented, possess an eye for the aesthetically pleasing, be comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-faceted organization, and have enthusiasm for both museums and collections.
