*Deaccessioning and Disposition of Collections: Ethical and Legal Issues *

Tuesday, October 15

12:00noon – 1:00pm PDT

The deaccessioning of museum collections has become a vital topic in recent
years as collecting institutions face increasingly restricted storage space
and resources. As museums refine their collections to ensure relevance to
mandates and communities, there is a need for increased attention to
practices in deaccessioning and disposition to ensure the overall
sustainability and health of both the museum collections and the public
trust. A consortium of museums and related entities across Alberta
initiated this research earlier this year and many B.C. museums contributed
knowledge and experience to the process. Join Sandra Morton Weizman, Museum
Consultant, and Meaghan Patterson, Executive Director / CEO, Alberta
Museums Association, to hear the results from the process and ways we can
come together to understand best practices for deaccessioning in our
institutions.
