Hi Tammy,

We have been using a walking tour app for a tour of our downtown murals and sculptures a few years now, it's called Balado Discovery<https://baladodiscovery.com/>. Based in Quebec, they have an initial start-up fee and then a 2-yr renewal fee. You can view all of the tours online without a mobile device here: https://baladodiscovery.com/circuits/
I found the app incredibly user-friendly for staff to upload content and photos. We had the option of uploading video as well. The staff at Balado were lovely and very helpful.
The downside is that if a potential visitor were looking in their mobile app store for "Creston Museum", this app won't pop up. You'll have to do the work of telling visitors about "Balado Discovery". When we signed up, they provided us with really nice full-size and ½ size banners with stands to place in our Visitor Info centre in order to help spread the word about our new app.

Here is what their pricing was a couple years ago, it might be a little different now:
Estimating the cost for a tour
This estimation considers a tour of 12 geo-located places, including 10 2-min videos, 40 photos and several texts.

· General charges - creation, hosting, maintenance, bandwidth, per tour 700$

· Services fixed costs -broadcast per tour 150$

· Number of points of interest @ 20$ each : 12 x 20$

· Total weight (media@ 3$ / Mb)
Total: 1,840$ CDN** (+ applicable taxes)

Extension of the broadcasting per additional year

· Continuity of services fixed costs -broadcast per tour, hosting, maintenance, bandwidth, 1 x 150$

· Number of points of interest: 12 x 0,50$

· Total weight (media): 60Mb @ 0,50$

Cheers,
Siobhan

Subject: [BCMA] Self-Guided Tour Apps

CAUTION: External email use caution

Hello, BC Museumland!

I have been investigating self-guided walking tour platforms for a tour of downtown Creston. I'm finding many options, ranging from really gimmicky to really expensive. We do have a small budget for subscription costs, but I'm looking for something sleek and professional on the much lower end of the pricing scale.

We want something that works with all the most popular operating systems and is available to users offline; easy to use for both us (me being pretty non-techy) and our visitors; GPS-enabled; must be able to handle maps, photos, text; audio and video capabilities are a bonus. But, from what I'm seeing, that describes most of the apps out there and I'm hoping somebody has some experience to help me narrow it down?

Thanks!

Tammy
