ACT Arts Centre, ACT Arts Centre, Maple Ridge, 11944 Haney Place. Please report to Ticket Centre on arrival.

<https://www.spacecentre.ca/location>Parking: Underground parking under the building which is free for 1hour and then c. $1.50 for up to 3 hours. There is also free street parking close by.
THEME: Creating and delivering a Métis school program – from the artist’s perspective
Lisa Shepherd, a Métis artist, will speak about creating and delivering a school program for K- Grade 12s inspired by her current exhibition at The ACT Art Gallery, FORGET-ME-NOT, MÉTIS ROSE: THE FAR WEST. Shepherd will offer advice about working with indigenous artists and how to create a culturally sensitive, curriculum focused program.
Shepherd will present this talk in the exhibition, providing some background information on her work which is a collaboration with painter Kristi Bridgeman. Naomi Evans, who worked with Shepherd on this program and manages the Learning Programs at The ACT, will also be on hand to answer any questions.
BIO: Born and raised in Alberta, Lisa Shepherd migrated west to British Columbia, where she now lives and creates one of a kind, award winning Métis garments and fine art works. The designer is best known for her one-of beaded garments that pay tribute to her Métis roots. Shepherd’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Royal Alberta Museum, Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives, Gabriel Dumont Museum and Archives, the National Music Centre and in private collections.
