[BCMA] HAMM is REOPENING!

Hello All!

Well, what a 20th Anniversary year we have had.  In the spring we were part of an arson spree which caused about $1000 in damages (which reminds me…ALL of your brochures were burned to a crisp so we need to replace them). Then on July 10th the Comox Valley experienced an extreme weather event which created a flash flood of our main facility.  Though no artefacts were damaged we did lose our flooring.  Nothing was covered by our insurance.

After a very successful fund raising campaign we were able to pay for the flood loss without having to borrow funds.  This allowed the renovations to be completed almost 2 weeks ahead of schedule.  While HAMM was being restored, our entire building was undergoing a major facelift at the same time.  We have a total new look from stem to stern and from port to starboard.

The Alberni Project Society is excited to announce that we will have our Grand Reopening Ceremony on October 16.  HAMM will have an unannounced "soft" opening on October 1 while we do the final touch ups and sprucing.

Finally we want to thank those BC Museums that helped us tremendously in our flood recovery through their organizations generous donations, artefact storage, and suggestions on flood damage restorations.  It meant a great deal to us to have the support from museums from the edges of Vancouver Island to deep in the interior of the province.
