Kelowna Art Gallery - Summer Programming Assistants
Duration: 14 weeks
Start and end dates: June 1 to September 4, 2020
Number of positions: 2
Wage: $15/hr
Please note length of position is dependent on grant funding
The Kelowna Art Gallery is looking to hire two summer students to organize and teach our Art Adventures summer art camps for children and youth ages 3 to 18. Additionally, summer students will be called upon to complete various tasks within the Gallery’s public programming department as required. Students will be expected to work directly with children and the public, develop programming and activities, manage a budget, coordinate volunteers, manage email communication and a booking calendar, and maintain organization and cleanliness of Gallery spaces.
Training will be provided on gallery procedures, classroom management, coordinating volunteers, budget management, and working with various age groups of children. Based on the YCW eligibility requirements, candidates must be full-time college or university students between the ages of 18 and 30 and returning to full-time studies in the fall.
The ideal candidates for this position would possess the following skills:

  1.  Currently enrolled in a college or university program specializing in fine arts, art history, or education
  2.  Previous experience in a gallery or museum environment is an asset
  3.  Knowledgeable of various art materials and techniques
  4.  A basic level of computer skills and be able to utilize programs like Microsoft Word or Excel
  5.  Experienced working with children and youth
  6.  Experienced developing age-appropriate art activities and lesson plans
  7.  Comfortable speaking with a diverse public
  8.  Organized, self-motivated and works well with a team
  9.  Experienced coordinating and supervising volunteers
  10. First aid training is an asset
